Suspect Arrested for Discharging a Firearm Towards Juvenile Trespassers

Boulder County, Colo. - On July 10, 2025, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a trespassing complaint in the 3000 block of 63rd St., in unincorporated Boulder County. Deputies contacted three 16-year-old males and two 15-year-old males for trespassing. Upon contacting the juveniles, deputies learned an unknown male had fired a rifle from the area of Valmont Rd. towards the juveniles.  

Deputies obtained a description and followed a vehicle of interest that was headed northbound on 61st St. from Valmont Rd. The driver, Kurt Erickson, 50-year-old, was arrested without incident. The investigation revealed the juveniles were not trespassing on the suspect’s property, but were trespassing on a neighboring property. Several items were collected including a .22 LR rifle, a spent casing, and narcotics. Erickson was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail on the following charges: 

  • One count of §18-18-403.5(2)(a), Unlawful Possession – Opium or Derivative > 4 Grams, a Class 4 Felony  
  • Five counts of §18-3-206, Menacing – Gun, a Class 5 Felony   
  • One count of §18-12-106(1)(d), Prohibited Use of a Weapon, a Class 1 Misdemeanor  
  • Five counts of §18-3-208, Reckless Endangerment, a Class 2 Misdemeanor 
  • Two counts of §18-6-401(7)(b)(1), Child Abuse, a Class 2 Misdemeanor 

The juveniles were warned for trespassing and released to their parents.

As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
