Suspect Arrested for Carjackings Linked to Domestic Violence Incident Near Caribou Townsite Trailhead
Boulder County, Colo. - On November 16, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an armed carjacking involving a knife at the Caribou Townsite trailhead near 4869 Caribou Road.
As deputies investigated, they learned the incident stemmed from an earlier domestic violence situation originating in Denver, where the suspect reportedly kidnapped the victim and drove her to the Caribou Trailhead. While at the location, the victim was able to escape the vehicle when the suspect stepped away. She sought help from community members in the parking area.
Concerned about their safety, and with a child inside their vehicle, the community members instructed the victim to follow them in her own vehicle so they could all leave the area and seek help. While they were driving away, the suspect returned and attempted to confront the victim and the community members. They were able to get past the suspect and leave the area.
A short while later, the suspect carjacked a Toyota 4Runner at knife point in the trailhead parking lot and fled. The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office located the stolen vehicle near mile marker 15 of State Highway 119, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit continued to the area of State Highway 119 and Chase Street on the north edge of Black Hawk, where deputies pinned the vehicle. The suspect fled on foot. Law enforcement conducted an extensive search with drones and K9, but the suspect was not located.
This morning, November 17, in the parking lot of the Lady Luck Casino in Black Hawk, a man matching the suspect’s description carjacked another vehicle at knife point following a physical altercation. The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Today, just after 2:00 p.m., investigators tracked down the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Andres Camilo Angarita Olaya, and took him into custody near 8000 block of Tejon Way, in Federal Heights without incident, and pursuant to a Boulder County warrant issued for his arrest. Andres will be booked and lodged at the Boulder County Jail on the following charges:
