Suspect Arrested After Crime Spree

Crimes Include Auto Theft and Burglary

Boulder County, Colo. - On November 7, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office began responding to several reports of commercial burglaries and an auto theft starting overnight at approximately 2:30 a.m. The suspect, 24-year-old, Taurian Smith, has been arrested and booked at the Boulder County Jail.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., the report of a stolen vehicle from a local business owner who was tracking the vehicle helped pinpoint where the suspect was driving the stolen vehicle. Multiple law enforcement units from the sheriff’s office, as well as Boulder Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, and Longmont Public Safety, responded to the area as the suspect continued to evade law enforcement.

The suspect eventually drove the stolen vehicle into a ditch just west of Westview Drive and Meadowlark Drive, near the Arapahoe Ridge High School campus. The school was placed on secure status for a short period of time while law enforcement pursued the suspect who had fled on foot.

Law enforcement was able to surround the suspect in the 6300 block of Arapahoe Road. He remained uncooperative, and eventually a conductive energy device was utilized. Smith was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and then then booked into the Boulder County Jail.

Smith has been charged with more than 30 counts, including the higher-level charges below. More charges are also expected, as we believe he is the likely suspect in similar cases in a neighboring jurisdiction:
