Stolen vehicle suspect apprehended after crashing into patrol vehicle and foot pursuit in Superior

Boulder County, Colo. -

On July 17, 2023 at approximately 6:30 a.m, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies learned that there was a potentially stolen vehicle in the Town of Superior.

The suspect vehicle was described as a maroon Ford F150, which was confirmed stolen out of Denver earlier this month.

Deputies began to search for the vehicle and located it stopped at Phillips 66, 191 McCaslin Boulevard. The vehicle then pulled towards the intersection of Marshall Road and McCaslin Boulevard. Deputies attempted to perform a “pinch maneuver” to secure the vehicle in place, preventing it from escaping and endangering the public. As deputies were getting their patrol vehicles into position, the suspect put the truck into reverse and accelerated backwards, colliding with the front of a deputy’s patrol vehicle.

The suspect fled on foot and a foot chase ensued. The suspect was apprehended near the intersection of Center Drive and Marshall Road. The suspect was identified as Miguel Angel Roman Arellano, age 22. Arellano was medically evaluated and later transported to the Boulder County Jail where he was booked and lodged on charges of: Vehicular Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Second Degree Motor Vehicle Theft, Criminal Mischief, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Resisting Arrest.

As a result of the collision, a deputy sustained a broken hand and facial injuries likely caused by airbag deployment. The deputy was treated and released from a local hospital.

Agencies who also assisted with this incident were the Louisville Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Boulder Police Department, and the Mountain View Fire Department.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is #23-03873.
