Statement on error found in City of Louisville ballots, no impact to voters

Boulder County, Colo. – It was discovered that City of Louisville ballots had a ballot contest error. In the City of Louisville, the Ward 3 city council contest was inadvertently included on all City of Louisville ballots, instead of just Ward 3 ballots.

This has no impact on City of Louisville voter’s ability to vote the ballot that was sent to them. During ballot processing, Boulder County Elections will be able to isolate the Ward 3 ballots so that only ballots cast in that district are counted toward the vote totals in that race. Additionally, note that the Ward 3 contest only has one candidate on the ballot (only 1 option to vote for).

Boulder County Elections sent a message to City of Louisville voters via email today and will be posting a message on Nextdoor shortly. Additionally, the office is working with the City of Louisville mayor to share the message more broadly though additional channels.

Boulder County Elections is in the process of reviewing the steps that led to this ballot contest printing error and will take actionable steps to improve our processes to avoid such issues in the future. We have also taken the additional step of re-verifying all Boulder County contest district associations to ballot styles to make sure no similar error has occurred elsewhere in the county.
