Sheriff’s Office Investigating Aircraft Safety Concern Near Longmont Airport

Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 7:24 PM, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a Longmont city employee. The employee reported they received a voice message from a caller claiming to have shot at an in-flight Ultralight aircraft near the Vance Brand Longmont Municipal Airport, located at 229 Airport Road in the City of Longmont. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Department of Public Safety, Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were notified.

Since the Sheriff’s Office was originally notified, there have not been any victims or damage identified or reported. Sheriff’s investigators have been in contact with a person of interest; however, we are not releasing the name currently, pending additional investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office remains in contact with the Longmont Department of Public Safety, TSA, FAA and FBI as the investigation remains ongoing. We do not have information leading us to believe there is an active threat to the aviation community utilizing the Vance Brand Longmont Municipal Airport.

If you have any information that may help with the investigation, you are encouraged to contact the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office tips line at 303-441-3674.
