Boulder County, Colo. - The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is hosting two public in-person open houses that will provide information about the Northwest Rail Peak Service Study, including the locations of proposed commuter rail stations between Longmont and Denver.

The first open house will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Hampton Inn & Suites Boulder-North (6333 Lookout Rd., Boulder, 80301). The second open house will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Westminster City Park Recreation Center, Longs Peak Community Room (10455 Sheridan Blvd., Westminster, 80020). Both open houses will take place between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will provide the same information:

Study team members will be available at the open houses to provide an overview of the study and answer questions. There will not be a formal presentation. Spanish interpretation will be provided.

Community members who are unable to attend one of the open houses can access the self-guided online meeting at NorthwestRailPeakServiceStudyOnlineMeeting.com anytime between Jan. 31 and Feb. 21. The same information from the open houses will be presented with the opportunity to provide feedback and submit questions. The self-guided online meeting will also be available in Spanish.

“We have faced challenges making the Northwest Rail a reality due to escalating costs and evolving train operation requirements and constraints. RTD remains committed to working with our regional partners to bring a rail solution to the northwest area,” said RTD Study Manager Patrick Stanley. “We hope community members join the conversation to learn more and provide input at the open house or online meeting. This feedback is incredibly valuable to the study.”

About the Northwest Rail Peak Service Study

Part of RTD's ongoing commitment to the FasTracks plan includes extending commuter rail service from Denver Union Station to Longmont. The Northwest Rail Peak Service Study advances the efforts toward this goal. The study evaluates how best to provide peak period service on this route: three morning trips from Longmont to Denver and three evening trips from Denver to Longmont.

Over the study period, the Northwest Rail Peak Service Study team will identify the requirements and costs to upgrade existing track, develop rail stations and operate peak period rail service to northwestern metropolitan communities, which include Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, Boulder and Longmont.
