Sentencing Next Week In Former Swim Coach Case

Boulder County, Colo. -- Sentencing – July 19, 2024

Jon Beber worked as a Swim Coach for the club team Boulder Swimming from 1997 through early 2002. He committed sex offenses against multiple underage swimmers on that elite swim team. When the allegations against him initially surfaced in 2002, the defendant quit the team and left Colorado.

At the time, no reports were made to law enforcement. Reports were made to Colorado Swimming and USA Swimming, but no action was taken at that time. It is known that this defendant has also coached swim teams in New York, Florida, and Georgia.

Nearly 20 years later, one of the victims called the District Attorney’s Office to inquire about the statute of limitations. That phone call led to this prosecution. In 2022, after three (3) victims came forward, the District Attorney’s Office filed charges against the defendant for sexually abusing three (3) teenage swimmers. The case went to trial in April.

The jury found the defendant guilty on all counts, including two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust – Pattern of Abuse (F3) and one count of Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (F4). Sentencing is set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024.

The sentencing ranges are as follows and the Court has the discretion to run these consecutive:

1) Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust – Pattern (F3), 8 – 24 years to Life followed by a period of parole for 20-to-Life

2) Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust – Pattern (F3), 8 – 24 years to Life with parole of 20-to-Life

3) Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (F4), 2 – 6 years to Life (non-mandatory, could receive probation) with parole of 10-to-Life
