Boulder County, Colo. -- In September of 2022, the victim and defendant, Brennan Pieper, were both freshman at CU - Boulder. On the night of September 26, 2022, the defendant and victim were both studying with friends in a dorm room. Eventually, they both took a break in studying and were throwing a football on the third floor of the dorm. During this time, the Defendant consensually kissed the victim and suggested that they go outside to Kittredge field. They walked to the middle of that field and kissed again. From there, the Defendant grabbed the victim’s wrist and pulled her to a dark corner of the field that was near a shed. At the shed, the Defendant held the victim down and forced oral penetration with his penis. He further forced digital penetration on the victim during this assault.
The jury found Brennan Piper guilty of two counts of Sexual Assault (F3) and one count of Unlawful Sexual Contact (F4). Sentencing is set for 3:00 pm on October 4, 2024.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “We appreciate the jury’s service. These guilty verdicts are the right outcome and a direct result of the victim’s strength, the outstanding investigation by the CU Police Department, and the hard work of our team.”
Deputy District Attorney’s Taylor Suta and Nevene Hullender stated, “We are grateful to the jury for coming to this verdict and holding the defendant accountable for his actions on September 26, 2022. The victim showed tremendous courage throughout this entire process – from reporting to police, to testifying at trial almost two years later. However, this outcome would not have happened without the tremendous work done by the CU Police Department and the lead Detective, Marc Mustoe. It is because of their diligent investigation and the victim’s testimony that we were able to achieve justice in this case.”
Our office will have additional comments after sentencing.
