Press Release – Angel Gomez Rubio Plea and Sentencing in Drug Dealing and Human Trafficking Case
Boulder County, Colo. -- In November of 2023, following an intensive investigation by the Longmont Police Department, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office, Angel Gomez Rubio (DOB: 9/15/2001) was arrested for providing drugs and vapes to middle and high school-aged students in exchange for money and sexual acts. The investigation included the use of records and evidence obtained from search warrants for social media, bank, and phone companies. Through these records and witness interviews, investigators uncovered a drug dealing operation where the defendant targeted middle and high school students. Specifically, this individual would sell drugs, namely Psilocybin Mushrooms, MDMA, Marijuana and Vapes, to juveniles throughout Boulder County and the surrounding areas. Further investigation revealed that Angel Gomez Rubio coerced underage girls to perform sexual acts in exchange for drugs and vapes.
Angel Gomez Rubio was arrested in Texas after returning from a trip to Mexico on nineteen (19) charges, including: five counts of Human Trafficking of a Minor for Sexual Servitude, a class two felony, Distribution of a Controlled Substance to a Minor, a class one drug felony, Special Offender – Pattern and Special Offender - Displays Firearm, class one drug felonies, Enticement of a Child, a class three felony, two counts of Internet Luring of Child, a class four felony, two counts of Sexual Assault on a Child, a class three felony, one count of Sexual Assault, a class four felony, one count of Sexual Assault - Force, a class three felony, Kidnapping, a class two felony, Money Laundering, a class three felony, Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a class three felony, and Distribution of Marijuana, a class three drug felony. Through continued and diligent investigation and a trauma-informed and victim centered approach to this human trafficking investigation, additional victims felt safe in coming forward to report the abuse they suffered at the hands of Angel Gomez-Rubio. Overall, Angel Gomez Rubio was charged with fifty-five counts naming a total of 13 victims – all minors.
On March 13, 2025, the defendant pled guilty to 10 counts of Trafficking for Sexual Servitude (F2), Special Offender (DF1), five counts of Criminal Attempt to Commit Sexual Assault (F5), four counts of Second Degree Assault (F4), and Distribution of Marijuana or Marijuana Concentrate to a Minor (DF4) and was sentenced to a total of 97 years in the Department of Corrections, 471 days credit for time served.
The cases for the co-defendants are still ongoing.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “Ninety-seven years in state prison is an appropriate sentence for a man who preyed upon middle and high-school aged students. He used drugs and vapes to lure kids in and then coerce them into sexual acts. This sentence was made possible by the outstanding team effort that went into this extensive investigation and prosecution. I am grateful to the Longmont Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, and our DA team for fighting for justice for these young victims.”
Longmont Police Chief Jeff Satur stated, “Keeping our children safe in our schools and the community is critical. We value our partnership with all the law enforcement agencies and the St. Vrain Valley School District officials who helped with this investigation. Human traffickers and drug dealers should take note.”
Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson stated, “The sentencing in this case provides justice to the victims and reflects the dedication and collaboration of law enforcement agencies in Boulder County. Addressing crimes against children requires a thorough and coordinated effort, and I appreciate the hard work of our investigators, the Longmont Police Department, and the District Attorney’s Office in bringing this case to a resolution.”
As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is
presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
