Boulder County, Colo. -- The Boulder County Commissioners have proclaimed June 2024 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Boulder County and encouraged all residents to respect and celebrate our diverse population, to help remove the ban on same-sex marriage in the state constitution, and to oppose efforts to jeopardize LGBTQ+ equality in Colorado.
The Pride Progress Flag and other diverse Pride flags will be displayed at the entrance to the Boulder County Courthouse (1325 Pearl St, Boulder) and in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room during the month of June. Boulder County will be taking part in the following events, which are open to the public:
Longmont Pride Festival – June 7
Lafayette Youth Pride – June 15
Lyons Pride – June 15
Boulder Pridefest – June 30
Keep an eye out for the Parks & Open Space Team, Rainbow Elders and Project Visibility, Open and Affirming Sexual Orientation and gender identity Support (OASOS), To the Root/A la Raiz, Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (TEPP) program, GENERATIONS, Lafayette Communities that Care, the Clerk & Recorder’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office.
Pride in the Parks
Boulder County Parks & Open Space will be celebrating with Pride in the Parks, which includes Pride in the Parks trailhead displays throughout the month of June and Pride in the Parks Birding Hikes. All events can be found on Discover.
You can see the Pride in the Parks trailhead display during the June 14 Walk with a Commissioner. Commissioner Marta Loachamin will host a gentle walk at Pella Crossing (11600 N 75th Street, Longmont) between 10-11 am. A bilingual park ranger will be on hand to chat with Spanish-speaking residents, as well.
Boulder County’s 2024 LGBTQ+ Pride Month Proclamation
WHEREAS, the Boulder County government proudly celebrates LGBTQ+ people and their achievements, contributions, and the ongoing fight for equality each day and every June in celebration of Pride Month; and
WHEREAS, all are welcome in Boulder County and diversity is an asset that enhances and enriches the lives of all Boulder County residents; and
WHEREAS, all people have the fundamental right to be who they are in all facets of their lives, whether at school, in their families, in public or in their workplace; and
WHEREAS, LGBTQ+ rights are human rights, and the Boulder County government honors its commitment to the promotion and protection of the human rights of LGBTQ+ residents; and
WHEREAS, the bravery and courage of those who fought for dignity and equality at the Stonewall Inn over 50 years ago continue to inspire advocates and allies in Boulder County as they continue to build a community of acceptance and affirmation; and
WHEREAS, the Boulder County government is in solidarity with transgender people here and across the United States and recognizes gender affirming care as a basic human right; and
WHEREAS, the Boulder County Commissioners support the Protecting The Freedom to Marry ballot measure, which goes to voters in November, and which would repeal the ban on same-sex marriage in the Colorado Constitution, protecting the right to marry against potential future decisions by the United States Supreme Court; and
WHEREAS, the Boulder County Commissioners strongly oppose the anti-LGBTQ+ initiatives approved for signature circulation for the 2024 ballot in Colorado, including efforts to exclude transgender young people from school sports programs and forcibly out transgender youth; and
WHEREAS, Boulder County continues to work towards a fully inclusive and safe community for LGBTQ+ people and their families by working with community organizations, such as Out Boulder County and Boulder County AIDS Project; and
WHEREAS, Boulder County was the first county to administer same-sex marriage licenses in the United States and the Boulder County Commissioners support the efforts to get National Landmark status for the Historic Downtown Courthouse as the site of this significant event in our nation’s history; and
WHEREAS, Boulder County continues to support LGBTQ+ residents through all of its services and especially through LGBTQ+ programs, including but not limited to, Rainbow Elders, Project Visibility, and Open and Affirming Sexual Orientation and gender identity Support (OASOS).
Now therefore, the Boulder County Board of County Commissioners, on behalf of Boulder County, do hereby proclaim that the month of June 2024 is recognized as Boulder County’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month and encourages all residents to respect and celebrate our diverse population, to help remove the ban on same-sex marriage in the state constitution, and to oppose efforts to jeopardize LGBTQ+ equality in Colorado.
