Illegal Fireworks Start Small Wildland Fire

Small Wildland Fire Extinguished by Passing Motorists

Boulder County, Colo. - On September 6, 2020 at approximately 9:00 pm, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received several reports of a small wildland fire in the 11,400 block of N. Foothills Highway in unincorporated Boulder County.

Upon arrival, responding Sheriff's Office Deputies and fire personnel from the Hygiene Fire Department learned that passing motorists had extinguished the fire prior to their arrival. The cause of the fire was deemed to be from a firework, however it is unknown who set the firework off and started the fire.

This should serve as a reminder that there is a state-wide fire ban in effect which includes prohibiting the use of fireworks.

Boulder County Sheriff's Deputies are also receiving, and responding to, multiple reports of illegal campfires despite the fire ban. These reports are taken seriously and the penalties are severe for anyone who chooses to ignore the order.

Please refrain from using fireworks or disregarding the fire ban. If you see someone violating the orders, please report it immediately to 911.
