Horse Rescued After Becoming Stuck in Mud
Boulder County, Colo. - On August 28, 2025, at approximately 1:08 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a horse was immersed in mud and stuck, in the 6200 block of Plateau Road, located in rural Boulder County.
The property owner discovered his horse “Sweetie,” an adult Warmblood mare trapped in the mud. When he attempted to free the horse, he also became stuck and called out for help. A neighbor responded to the call for help and then alerted 911 to the situation.
Responders from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protection Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, and Boulder Emergency Squad arrived and worked together to safely free the horse.
A veterinarian from VetweRx was on scene and provided care during the rescue. Sweetie has been freed from the mud and continues to be evaluated by veterinary personnel.
