Fourmile Canyon Creek Trail Underpass Now Open
Underpass connects Fourmile Canyon Creek Path with Cottonwood/LoBo Trail
Boulder County, Colo. - The Public Works and Community Planning & Permitting departments have opened the Fourmile Canyon Creek Trail Underpass which now connects Fourmile Canyon Creek Path to the Cottonwood Trail and is part of the Longmont-to-Boulder (LoBo) Trail system. The long-awaited underpass construction was assisted by BNSF who completed the first phase of construction in late 2023. The County’s work included the underpass, the pathway connection, and landscape restoration. A celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony is being planned for this summer. More information about that event will be shared after it is finalized.
“The completion of this project is instrumental in connecting the trail systems in north and east Boulder to Gunbarrel, Niwot, and Longmont and in a safe way for trail users without being disruptive to BNSF railroad operations,” said Public Works Director Steve Durian.
This underpass wraps up a multi-year project that helps bicyclists and pedestrians navigate between Gunbarrel and the City of Boulder. It’s also a valuable link for people seeking to access the county’s Longmont-to-Boulder (LoBo) Trail network.
“The completion of this project is another important step in the City of Boulder’s ongoing partnership with Boulder County to build a more connected trail system—linking people, open space, and communities across the region.,” said Dan Burke, director of the city’s Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) Department. “The city thanks Boulder County and BNSF for their support of this project, and we welcome community members to begin using this important trail connection.”
The county-led effort was completed in cooperation with BNSF, and the City of Boulder’s Transportation and Mobility and Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) departments.
