Female Hiker Rescued From the Royal Arch Trail

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Sunday, January 3, 2021 at approximately 5:18 p.m. the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a party who sustained a knee injury while hiking in the area of the Royal Arch. The accident occurred when she jumped from one rock to another while descending the trail after watching the sunset. The 34-year-old female from Lakewood, CO was with two other hikers when the accident occurred.

City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks Rangers arrived on scene at approximately 5:55 p.m. and began providing first aid. Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group provided additional medical care and then packaged the female in a litter and carried her down to the Enchanted Mesa/Mesa Trail intersection. She was then moved to a Ranger’s vehicle and transferred to the Chautauqua Auditorium where her friends met and assisted her with transportation to medical care.

The rescue took approximately three and a half hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
