County Commissioners and Planning Commission to hold Joint Study Session Meeting on E-Bikes, Tuesday, March 5

Tuesday, March 5 (2:30 p.m.) study session is open to the public, but public testimony will not be taken

Boulder County, Colo. – The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the Planning Commission (PC) will hold a joint study session meeting on e-bikes on Tuesday, March 5 at 2:30 p.m.

The purpose of this session is to bring the BOCC and PC together to discuss the goals of the 2019 e-bikes pilot on county open space trails and regional trails and to gather their input on the design of the pilot studies. Staff wants to ensure that the research efforts yield data that can effectively inform future decision making on this topic.

The hearing will take place in the third-floor hearing room of the Boulder County Courthouse, 1325 Pearl St., Boulder.

Background

The Boulder County Commissioners approved a one-year pilot study to allow e-bikes on certain county open space trails on the plains starting Jan. 1, 2019. During this pilot period, staff will study the visitor and trail impacts of e-bikes on county trails.

The county commissioners also directed staff to pursue an update to the definition of passive recreation in the Open Space Element of the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan as a means for allowing e-bikes on certain county trails. Planning Commission held a study session on this topic in December 2018 and provided initial input on the pilot study design.
