Cone Zones: US 287 & Isabelle Road Intersection Safety Improvement Project underway

Isabelle Road evening closure on Monday, 11/23

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Public Works, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), and Concrete Works of Colorado have started a safety improvements project at the US287 and Isabelle Road intersection.

In order to install temporary traffic signals, Isabelle Road will need to be closed at US 287 from 6 p.m. to midnight on Monday, Nov. 23. Detours will be established.

Normal working hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary over the course of the project. Updates will be posted at www.US287Isabelle.com.

Travelers on both US 287 and Isabelle Road can expect lane closures and traffic shifts throughout the project’s duration, which is anticipated to end in May. Alternate routes are advised during working hours.

The project will improve safety and traffic flow by reconstructing the intersection and widening Isabelle Road both east and west of the highway. The scope of work includes plans to:

  • Widen Isabelle Road from 109th Street (Town of Erie) to 800 feet west of US 287
  • Stripe new buffered bike lanes both east and west on Isabelle Road across the intersection
  • Lengthen the existing turn lanes on Isabelle Road to reduce conflicts for waiting vehicles and add dual left-turn lanes for westbound traffic
  • Replace existing traffic signals installed on raised islands with new pedestrian crossings on all four corners
  • Install improved lighting to improve visibility within the project limits.
  • Realign the Isabelle Road intersection with109th Street to improve sight distance for both southbound and westbound traffic.
  • Construct new wetlands northeast of the intersection to mitigate project impacts and improve wildlife habitat.

Design exhibits are available at www.US287Isabelle.com. The project is funded with CDOT Highway Safety Funds and Boulder County’s Countywide Transportation Sales Tax that was passed by voters in 2007.

All current Boulder County Transportation project information is available at www.BoCoConeZones.com.
