CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Project: Unsignalized Intersections Update

Planned Improvements Focused on Safety for All

Boulder County, Colo. - The CO 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Project will construct a nine-mile bikeway between Boulder and Longmont, Bus Rapid Transit stations and bus bypass lanes for faster and more reliable buses and intersection safety improvements. Construction on the project will begin later this year.

Safety for all travelers and users of the Diagonal Highway corridor is the main reason for the planned improvements. This includes safety for people on bikes and safety for people in vehicles.

A crash study of the unsignalized intersections that cross CO 119 showed alarming crash numbers and the need to make some changes. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), who manages the intersections, collaborated with the county on possible changes and then brought the drafts to the public at an in-person public meeting on Dec. 13, 2023, in Niwot, and via short videos on the CDOT and County sites.

Visit these CDOT webpages to see the planned changes for each intersection:

Information on locations of construction will be released soon.
