Clerk and Recorder Services for those impacted by the Marshall Fire

Información en español

Because proof of ownership of property will likely be necessary to complete insurance claims for those who lost homes or vehicles in the fire, we wanted to provide this information to the community as quickly as possible.

Recording Services – Replacement Home / Property Deeds and Marriage Certificates

The Boulder County Clerk & Recorder can waive fees for replacement home/property deeds and for copies of marriage certificates requested over email.

Home/Property records: Obtaining a replacement/copy deed for homes/property damaged or destroyed in the Marshall Fire:

  • Email the Recording office: recording@bouldercounty.org (Recording office works remotely)
    • Use subject line: Last Name - Marshal Fire property documents needed
    • Please include your full name and home or property that was affected by the fire
    • Please also include a cell number we can reach you (in case we have issues locating records)
    • Due to the high volume of requests, please allow up to 2 business days for a response. However, we will do our best to respond much sooner.
  • Note: If you need documents immediately, you can access documents through the online portal. However, because we use a third-party vendor, we are unable to waive fees. Fees are .25 per page plus credit card fees. Login as a guest, search records by name (enter last name then first name – NO comma); From the results page, click on the reception number on the left to open the details page. Then, click on save image to download. This will prompt a payment screen.

Marriage Certificate copies: While less needed for insurance, our office can supply copies of marriage certificates to fire victims.

  • Email the Recording office: recording@bouldercounty.org
    • Use subject line: Last Name - Marshal Fire marriage certificate needed
    • Please include the full names of those on the marriage certificate
    • Please also include a cell number we can reach you
    • Due to the high volume of requests, please allow up to 2 business days for a response. However, we will do our best to respond much sooner.

Motor Vehicle Services – Replacement titles and other needs

The Boulder County Clerk & Recorder can waive fees for transactions completed in person. Please let our staff know you are a victim in the Marshal Fire. Requests for these documents can also be completed online, however, those transactions are handled directly by the state Motor Vehicle office, require a current mailing address, and Boulder County has no ability to waive fees. Turnaround for online transactions may be about 2-3 weeks.

The most likely vehicle-related items you may need are:

  • Replacement vehicle title
  • Replacement vehicle registration

If possible and to save time, make an appointment at one of our three offices. Appointments are typically more plentiful in our Lafayette office.

ID is required for in person service. If you do not have an ID, contact the Colorado Motor Vehicle Driver’s License office (separate from our office). We also accept digital IDs from the MyColorado App (download through mobile app stores).

Questions? We are here to help. Call us at 303-413-7710. Our call wait might be long, but we appreciate your patience. If it is not urgent, you may also use the contact us form (or contact us form in Spanish) with a typical response time of 24-48 business hours.

Our office operates: Mon-Thurs 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is closed on Fridays.
