Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Launches Fraud Awareness Training Program
Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of a new Fraud Awareness Training Program, a volunteer-run initiative designed to educate community members about fraud and scams and reduce the risk of victimization across Boulder County.
Fraud and scam activity continues to surge both nationally and within Colorado. This surge reflects both the growing sophistication of scammers’ tactics and the broad range of fraud types affecting people of all ages. In Colorado, the problem is particularly acute as Colorado ranked seventh in the nation for fraud complaints per capita.
“We are incredibly excited about this volunteer-led initiative. By equipping our community with the knowledge and tools to recognize and avoid scams, we hope to see a measurable decline in the number of fraud cases we respond to and help protect our community before it’s too late,” said Sheriff Curtis Johnson.
The Fraud Awareness Training Program will offer free one hour sessions on identifying common scam types, understanding how fraud schemes operate, learn practical steps to prevent becoming a victim, and learn steps to take if you do become a victim. Training courses are open to community groups, HOA’s, senior centers, businesses, and other organizations throughout Boulder County.
If you are interested in hosting a training or would like to learn about upcoming sessions you can attend, please email: SheriffFraudAwarenessTraining@bouldercounty.gov.

First training class held on Feb. 20, 2026.
