Boulder County, Colo. – This year’s unusually warm, dry winter in Colorado is increasing wildfire risk. To help residents get ahead of it, Boulder County’s Wildfire Partners is opening its general rebate program two months earlier than last year. The program offers up to $500 to residents who take specific actions to reduce wildfire risk on their properties.
The program is open to all Boulder County residents who own or rent a home in the county and who perform approved wildfire mitigation measures at their property. Residents of unincorporated areas of the county, as well as cities and towns, may apply.
“Given the warmer and drier conditions we’ve seen this winter, we know the threat of wildfire has intensified,” said Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin. “By launching this rebate program ahead of schedule, we’re encouraging residents to take proactive steps now so they can better prepare their homes and neighborhoods for continued wildfire risk in Colorado.”
Over the past two years, 1,538 Boulder County residents received rebates totaling $672,600 within its six months of operation.
The 2026 rebate program will continue to encourage the six eligible wildfire mitigation actions from the 2025 rebate program:
- Cut the Clutter – Declutter under your deck to reduce the risk of ember ignition.
- Fences are Fuses – Replace the five feet of fencing attached to your home with fire-resistant, noncombustible materials.
- Junk Your Junipers – Remove highly flammable juniper shrubs from your landscape.
- Protect Home Base – Cover the bottom 6 inches of house siding with noncombustible material.
- The First Five Feet – Replace the first five feet surrounding your home with noncombustible materials.
- Vents for Defense – Install 1/8-inch mesh screens or upgrade to flame-resistant vents to block embers.
All qualifying work and materials must be completed on properties located within Boulder County. The application deadline for the 2026 rebate program is 5 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2026, and all work must be completed and claims submitted before 5 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2026.
