33-year-old Longmont Man Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of a Child
Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, August 1, 2025, 33-year-old Michael Anthony REYES turned himself in at the Boulder Jail on a warrant for 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a child relating to distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting a child under the age of 12 years. The investigation began after detectives at the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab (BCDFL) were notified that a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had received CSAM files from someone in the Boulder County area during an undercover operation.
Through investigation and service of court orders on electronic service providers (ESPs), the FBI and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators identified REYES as a possible suspect and were able to obtain a search warrant for his residence in the 800 block of Bowen Street, City of Longmont, Boulder County, CO. On September 3, 2024, investigators served the search warrant and seized several electronic devices. FBI personnel transported the electronic evidence to the Rocky Mountain Regional Computer Forensic Lab for processing. Ultimately, it was decided that the case would return to the BCDFL for further investigation and filing of charges under Colorado state statute. Examination of the evidence resulted in probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for REYES for distribution of CSAM.
REYES was booked into the Boulder County Jail on August 1, 2025 on the arrest warrant for: 20 counts of violating C.R.S. §18-6-403(3)(b)(5.5), sexual exploitation of a child – distribution depicting a child under 12, a Class 3 Extraordinary Risk Felony. On Monday, August 4, 2025, REYES was released from jail after posting a $20,000 secured bond with additional conditions of no contact with anyone under the age of 18 years and no access to social media or cloud storage services.
Agencies who assisted with this investigation include the: Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab, Federal Bureau of Investigation (Denver and New York field offices), Rocky Mountain Regional Computer Forensic Lab, Longmont Department of Public Safety, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, and Boulder Police Department.
District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated, “Since the Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab started working these investigations, three things have been made clear. First, there are individuals distributing and using child sexual abuse material in every community; so, we are fortunate to have this outstanding team pursuing these cases in Boulder County. Second, these cases involve actual victims because of what the videos depict. Finally, in this jurisdiction, the investigators and prosecutors will work hard to search out offenders, protect victims, and fight for justice.”
The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number for this investigation is 24-03983.
