Purpose/Background

BACKGROUND:

Boulder County and other Colorado communities are living with worsening impacts of climate change in the form of several alarming trends: more destructive wildfires, more heat waves and droughts, reduced snowpack, increased air pollution, and changing precipitation, among other indicators. These impacts are already happening and may be irreversible according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which illustrate what Boulder County and other communities have at stake—and why it’s critical to prepare for a different future.

IPCC and leading scientists are now in consensus that decarbonizing the built environment as rapidly as possible is an essential strategy to stem the worst effects of climate change. To accomplish this growing a robust green building workforce that is racially and gender inclusive is critical. Regionally, it is perceived that there are obstacles and barriers that have impacted minority and women owned businesses and communities from fully participating in a ‘green energy economy’.

The office of Sustainability, Climate Action & Resilience (OSCAR) seeks to hire a consultant to evaluate the current green energy economy landscape horizontally (i.e. across the region) and vertically (i.e upwards in the supply chain from in-field installers and contractors to architect/designers and suppliers) in order to evaluate access issues, concerns and barriers for minority and women businesses wanting to operate within the green and resilient building sector. Organizations, as well as well qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
