Purpose / Background

The Boulder County Resource Conservation Division (RCD) owns the Boulder County Recycling Center (BCRC), which was built in 2001. The BCRC serves as an educational institution, which welcomes thousands of visitors each year to learn about the operations of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) by offering self-guided and guided tours. Since commencing its operations, the MRF has undergone several significant retrofits in order to adapt to shifts in inbound materials, diversification of consumer products and packaging, and to meet quality demands. These retrofits have consisted of installments of new, advanced machinery such as film plastic extraction systems, plastic optical sorting, an expanded presort conveyor and soon-to-be robotics and fiber optical sorting, along with other capital equipment and building improvements. As a result, the displayed information showcasing our operations is outdated as it no longer reflects our current operations.

In addition to outdated content, the current displays fail to offer hands-on, interactive learning experiences. To become more inclusive to our visitors, the RCD specifically requests services that design, manufacture, and install both interactive and digital displays. By doing so, Boulder County can offer a well-rounded learning experience for tour-goers of all ages and ability.
