Supportive Housing

En Español

Everyone has the right to live in a safe, affordable, and decent home.

A stable home is one of the most important things for a person or family. It can improve health, help children do better in school, and make our community stronger.

Boulder County’s Supportive Housing Division helps people stay in their homes by offering financial assistance and other services. We work to prevent evictions, housing crises, and homelessness, helping our neighbors regain stability.

Our Mission:

The Supportive Housing Division (SHD) works to eliminate homelessness and housing instability in our community by providing timely assistance and high-quality supportive services that promote independence and economic mobility.

What We Do:

SHD is part of the Boulder County Housing Department. We run eight programs with $7.2 million in funding from local, state, and federal sources. Half of this funding goes directly to helping community members with financial support.

Highlights of our work include:

  • The Housing Stabilization Program (HSP) works with local partners like Family Resource Centers, domestic violence agencies, St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts, Boulder County Family & Children Services, and Colorado Works. Together, they provided case management to 475 households facing serious housing challenges and distributed $2.8 million in rental assistance in 2024.
  • SHD leveraged county spending on supportive services to bring in an extra $2,136,846 from state and federal funding that supports our Continuum of Care Rapid Rehousing, Next Steps Homeless Prevention, and Family Bridge Housing These programs helped over 100 families with children, as well as youth transitioning out of foster care, who were experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of losing their homes.
  • In collaboration with the Boulder County Housing Authority (BCHA) and Boulder County Family & Children Services (FCS), SHD helped to identify and connect FCS-involved households experiencing housing instability to housing vouchers through the Family Unification Program (FUP). Our team also provided long-term, stabilizing case management for those households to support their tenancy and build self-sufficiency.
  • BCHA Resident Services helped more than 400 households of all ages with housing challenges and supported 355 older adults to live safely and independently in their chosen homes. Additionally, they assisted BCHA tenants with vouchers in maintaining their deeply affordable housing resource. The team also offered unique programs like Robotics, 3-Generation gardening and holiday events, and emergency planning trainings to build strong, connected communities.
  • In 2024, the Boulder County Housing Helpline helped the community by answering over 2,600 questions. The team provided help with housing navigation, landlord/tenant issues, eviction prevention, and rental assistance programs, guiding residents through Boulder County’s complex housing market.
  • The Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program, in partnership with BCHA and Boulder Housing Partners (BHP), supported 158 Housing Choice and Project-Based voucher holders in reaching academic and employment goals while building significant escrow savings. In 2024, 19 households graduated from the five-year program, with one household purchasing a home, and more than $238,595 in escrow savings were distributed to those households.

Housing Support: Most Supportive Housing Division programs are available through referrals from our community partners with the exception of the Boulder County Housing Helpline. Contact them at HousingHelpline@bouldercounty.gov or 303-441-1206.

BCHA tenants needing routine, non-emergency maintenance requests, such as a broken appliance, dripping faucet, or drywall repair should email bchaworkorders@bouldercounty.gov or call 720-864-6400.

For urgent requests that need to be addressed immediately, such as no water, broken pipes that cannot be turned off, no heat in the winter, sewer line stoppage, gas leaks or carbon monoxide alerts, lockouts, etc., call 303-370-9299.
