Animal-Borne Disease Control Program

Weekly Animal-Borne Disease Reporting

The Boulder County Public Health Vector Control Program aims to prevent the spread of disease from vectors (animals) to humans.

Week 29: July 20-26, 2025

Rabies

  • This week, four bats were submitted for testing.
  • Currently, two bats in Boulder County have tested positive for rabies.
  • Statewide, 21 bats tested positive for rabies.
  • In 2024, 54 animals tested positive for rabies.

Mosquitoes

  • Nuisance (non-vector) mosquitoes were above the five-year average for the week.
  • Vector mosquitoes were below the five-year average for the week.
  • To date, no human cases of WNV were reported in Colorado.
  • Nationwide, 49 cases of WNV were reported.

Plague/Tularemia/Hantavirus

  • No specimens were submitted for plague, tularemia, or hantavirus.
