COVID-19 Testing in Boulder County
Since the end of the federal Public Health Emergency declaration (PHE) on May 11, 2023, free testing options have been limited.
Medicare
Medicare had allowed eight free over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 tests per person per month, but that benefit ended May 11, 2023. Medicare will now cover lab tests ordered by a provider.
Medicaid
If you have coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program, you will have access to COVID-19 over-the-counter and laboratory testing through September 30, 2024. After that date, coverage of testing may vary by state.
Private Insurance
Private insurance will determine how COVID-19 tests are covered for their beneficiaries, with possible cost-sharing, prior authorization, or other forms of medical management.
Boulder County residents are encouraged to consult with their healthcare providers to explore testing options.
