Community of Hope

Every person deserves the opportunity to live with stability, self-sufficiency, health, and a sense of well-being. Community of Hope is designed to bring together programs, services, and funding opportunities to holistically address the core issues that impact quality of life.

Health and quality of life are impacted by the economic, environmental, and social conditions in which we live. Community of Hope provides the framework to improve these conditions in order to create a more equitable place to live, work, play, or visit.

Focus Areas

Community of Hope focuses on seven pillars of family and individual stability that, when addressed together, can improve economic, environmental, and social conditions so that every person in Boulder County has the opportunity for stability, self-sufficiency, health, and a sense of well-being.

Pillars of Family and Individual Stability

  • Access to Adequate Food and Nutrition
  • Education
  • Employment Income Stability
  • Environmental Health
  • Health and Well-Being
  • Housing Stability
  • Safety

Community of Hope aims to achieve:

  • More effective and efficient publicly-funded interventions within each of the pillar areas
  • A streamlined method for defining “success” and areas for improvement within each of the pillar areas
  • A defined set of indicators and a common measurement system for evaluating success and improvement
  • Improved outcomes in each of the pillar areas
  • Awareness of the work of our partners that supports each pillar area

Community of Hope activities focus on:

  • Setting county-wide goals and strategies
  • Defining what success looks like for the community (shared outcomes and indicators)
  • Targeting funding toward projects and programs that improve health, stability, and self-sufficiency

Current Activities

  • Aligning goals, strategies, and interventions across Boulder County organizations
  • Identifying and agreeing upon shared outcomes and indicators
  • Identifying areas where, together, we can amplify our impact

Future Activities

  • Policy- and population-level strategies, such as advocating for system and policy improvements
  • Client-level strategies such as better connecting community members to the right services at the right time

Community of Hope is a collaboration with community partners led by:

An important part of Community of Hope is making decisions about programs, services, and funding based on data and indicators of health and well-being in our community. Some of this data includes:

  • Health & Well-Being
  • Access to Health Care
  • Affordable Housing Need
  • Housing Stability
  • Socioeconomics of Affordable Housing
  • Food & Nutrition
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Child Care Assistance
  • Mental Health Care

The work done by community partners is a crucial part of creating a Community of Hope.

In, 2014, the Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services hosted a Community of Hope Summit with about 200 of our community partners and staff. The summit was the beginning of a deeper conversation on the ways we can all work together toward this vision of health, stability, and well-being in our community.

The framework that is developing out of the Community of Hope initiative is now helping guide our Boulder County Partnerships across Boulder County.

The Community of Hope white paper summarizes some of the common themes and next steps that emerged at the summit.
