Climbers Rescued from Top of Redgarden Wall in Eldorado Canyon State Park

Boulder County, Colo. - On Sunday, March 22, 2020 at approximately 8:20 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office was notified of two climbers who were benighted on top of Redgarden Wall in Eldorado Canyon State Park.

The two parties started climbing the Anthill Direct route at approximately 2:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon. The parties reached the top of the climb near dusk, and without headlamps and not being familiar with the descent route, spent time looking for a way down. They then decided to call 911.

Members of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group (RMRG) ascended the East Slabs and located the two climbers near the top. RMRG provided the climbers with warm clothing and headlamps and then assisted them down the East Slabs to the trailhead. The rescue took eight hours due to ice and snow conditions on the East Slab.

With the Spring and Summer months ahead of us, the Sheriff’s Office wants to remind outdoor enthusiasts to plan their activities properly and make sure they have the proper equipment and experience to enjoy your outdoor excursions.

The associated Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number is: #20-1497.
