Access to Cradleboard Trail from South 104th Street Closed Oct. 15–July 31 to Protect Nesting Bald Eagles
Use trailhead at the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm to access Cradleboard Trail when traveling south. When traveling from the north, follow detour signs to access South 104th.
Boulder County, Colo. - Beginning Thursday, Oct. 15, access to the Cradleboard Trail from the south end of South 104th Street will be closed to protect nesting bald eagles.
Visitors should use the trailhead at the Carolyn Holmberg Preserve at Rock Creek Farm to access Cradleboard Trail when traveling from the north. When traveling from the south, follow posted detour signs to reach South 104th Street. Do not park or use the road south of the parking lot. An eagle viewing area is available about three‑quarters of a mile from the trailhead parking lot.
The closure will remain in place until July 31, 2027, unless the eagles nest in a different location. If they move, the access trail may reopen. Boulder County works closely with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and follows all state and federal raptor‑protection guidelines. Additional protections may be added if needed.
Human activity, even on the ground, can disturb nesting eagles, especially during sensitive periods. Thank you for respecting this wildlife closure and using both the detours and the designated viewing area.
Updates for the closure will be posted to the boco.org/chpr webpage.
