Boulder St. Vrain Watershed Art Contest inspires youth to learn about and celebrate shared water resources

Boulder County, CO — The Keep It Clean Partnership (KICP) has announced that submissions are now open for the 2026 Boulder St. Vrain Watershed Art Contest.
The contest, back for a fifth year, invites K-12 students who reside or attend school in Boulder County to showcase their creativity by submitting artwork that shows their love for our waterways. There is no cost to participate.
Last year, over 240 students from 45 schools participated in the contest, sharing why they were grateful for water. In 2025, contest entries were featured at the Superior Civic Center, Lafayette Public Library, Longmont Water Fair, and on Longmont waste management trucks.
“This year, we’re excited to encourage students to think about their connection to the water they see every day: the water that they drink, play in, or pass by on the way to school,” said KICP Coordinator Cristina Ramirez. “Water has been top of mind for many of us this year, especially as we face drought throughout the state. We’d love to see students of all ages consider the value in a healthy waterway and understand how actions have a real impact on the streams that run through our community.”
Prize Information
A panel of judges will select three winners from four grade divisions: grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
Grades K-2 and 3-5
- 1st Place: $75 in art supplies and gift cards
- 2nd Place: $50 in art supplies and gift cards
- 3rd Place: $25 in art supplies and gift cards
Grades 6-8 and 9-12
- 1st Place: $100
- 2nd Place: $75
- 3rd Place: $50

Contest Requirements
- Artwork should be inspired by one of the following prompts
- I love Boulder Creek because…
- I love Coal Creek because…
- I love St. Vrain Creek because…
- I love [insert your favorite water place] because…
- Submissions should include:
- One piece of two-dimensional artwork on an 8.5-by-11-inch sheet of paper.
- One sentence describing why the artist is grateful for water.
- Acceptable media include crayons, markers, pencils, paint, pastels, fabric, watercolor, chalk, and collage. Photographs and digital art are not eligible.
- Pieces can be submitted through the contest form online (also available in Spanish).
- The deadline for submissions is Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, 11:59 PM Mountain Time.
