Boulder County, Colo. - Suspect arrested Tuesday evening after ramming two vehicles, assaulting a driver, chasing a teenager while threatening to kill her, and attempting to flee from law enforcement.

The suspect, Daniel Kent Townsend, D.O.B. 03/22/1960, was driving south in the 5,000 block of North Foothills Highway at approximately 4:21 p.m. on Monday when he struck another vehicle. Townsend then rammed the same vehicle at least four additional times, forcing the driver off the roadway before fleeing the scene.

Townsend then drove northbound on North Foothills Highway and followed another vehicle into a driveway in the 10,000 block where he rammed that vehicle as well. When both drivers exited their vehicles, Townsend punched the second victim in the face.

A nearby teenager witnessed the incident and began walking toward the commotion. Townsend chased her on foot, threatening to kill her, before returning to his vehicle and pursuing her again. Fearing for her life, the teen hid underneath a horse trailer.

Townsend then drove into a gate on the property, causing significant damage, before his vehicle became stuck in a ditch. Deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Colorado State Patrol, arrived and found Townsend attempting to flee in the disabled vehicle. He was taken into custody after exiting the car.

Townsend was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. The felony charges include:

• 18-2-101(4) Criminal Attempt to Commit Class One Felony - (F2)
• 18-3-205(1)(a) Vehicular Assault – Reckless Driving with Serious Bodily Injury – Non-Family (F5)
• 18-3-206 Menacing – Intimidation Weapon - (F5)
• 18-4-501(4)(e) Criminal Mischief - Public [$5,000 to < $20,000] - (F5)
• 18-4-501(4)(d) Criminal Mischief - Private [$5,000 to < $20,000] - (F6)
• 18-2-101(4) Criminal Attempt to Commit Class Five or Six Felony - (F6)
• 18-4-501(1)(4)(d) Criminal Mischief - Private [$2,000 to < $5,000] - (F6)

The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s case number is: 26-04185.

As in every criminal case, these charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
