Structure Fire at Equestrian Facility Contained
Boulder County, Colo. - At 11:41 p.m. on Aug. 16, the Boulder County Communications Center received a report of a structure fire near the intersection of N. 55th St. and Niwot Rd. in unincorporated Boulder County. Deputies responded alongside multiple fire agencies due to the size of the fire.
A 20-by-60-foot hay storage structure was fully involved upon arrival, and a smaller nearby office building also caught fire. Additional structures impacted included a small shed, an empty grain silo and a Conex storage container.
Deputies evacuated nearby occupied structures on the property as a precaution, and horses were relocated with assistance from the property owners and responding personnel. Although deputies were prepared to evacuate neighboring residences, no off‑property evacuations were required due to firefighters establishing control of the incident quickly. No people or animals were injured.
Niwot Road and N. 55th Street were closed during the response. N. 55th Street remains closed as fire crews continue suppression and monitoring of a large haystack that ignited during the incident.
The Multi‑Agency Fire Investigation Team (MAFIT) has been notified and will conduct an investigation throughout the day. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
Agencies assisting in the response included the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder Rural Fire Rescue, Lefthand Fire, and Mountain View Fire Rescue.
The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is 26‑03873.
