Boulder County, Colo. - Shortly after 4 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a call reporting a man experiencing a mental health crisis whose location was unknown.

Emergency Communications Specialists at the dispatch center were able to obtain a general cell phone location, but unfortunately not his exact location. The cell phone pings indicated he was moving through the Niwot area. Deputies searched for the man on foot, in vehicles, and with the assistance of drone technology.

Tragically, a person matching the description of the man they were searching for was found deceased shortly before 6:45 a.m. near Meadowdale Drive and Niwot Road.

Deputies had been in contact with family members during the search. Based on the information provided, there was no indication that the man posed a threat to others. As a result, no shelter‑in‑place notifications were issued.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is conducting an independent investigation to determine the cause and manner of death. The man’s identity will be released after positive identification and notification of next of kin.
