Boulder County, Colo. - Weather forecasts for Wednesday, Dec. 17, include high winds and dry conditions. Xcel Energy announced it is evaluating the need to use proactive public safety power shutoffs at 12 noon MT on Dec. 17 to reduce the risk of wildfire.
Xcel’s announcement includes advice for preparing for a power outage, including how to stay safe and informed. According to Xcel, “Restoration efforts can only begin once the wildfire risk has subsided and may take several hours up to multiple days beyond the duration of high winds and elevated fire risk. This is because lines must be visually inspected to ensure they can safely be restored to service.” The shutoff is expected to impact people in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer, and Weld counties.
Xcel will continue to issue updates. Visit Xcel Energy’s Public Safety Power Shutoff Event Update page for the latest information and the outage map.
