UPDATE: Human Remains Found Near State Highway 93 & State Highway 128
Boulder County, Colo. - The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, has concluded its investigation into the unattended death of a male found on August 25 near State Highway 93 and State Highway 128, in the water of Coal Creek.
The deceased male was identified as 34-year-old Paul Aragon, who was unhoused. Mr. Aragon was reported missing to the Broomfield Police Department on May 8, after his truck was located in Broomfield.
Following the finding of his remains in Boulder County, an extensive search and investigation were conducted. This included a K9 search, a drone search, a canvass of his possible routes of travel, and interviews with his family, friends, and known associates.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office concluded its investigation after finding no evidence to suggest that any criminal activity occurred in relation to Mr. Aragon’s death.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office conducted a parallel investigation and determined that the cause of death was drowning, and the manner of death was accidental.
Agencies assisting with this investigation included the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Coroner’s Office, Broomfield Police Department, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Emergency Squad, and the Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States.

Human Remains Found Near State Highway 93 & State Highway 128
Boulder County, Colo. - On August 26, 2025, at approximately 10:13 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a member of the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Vegetation Crew. They advised human remains had been found. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and located decomposed human remains approximately 150 yards east of the Flatirons Vista Trailhead, which is located on State Highway 93, south of State Highway 128.
Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the death. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Based on the information currently available, investigators do not have any information to suggest a broader threat to the community.
Responding agencies included the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County Coroner’s Office, Boulder Emergency Squad, Mountain View Fire Rescue, and City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks.
