Voter-approved tax funds will provide more activities for people with disabilities and their families

Boulder County, Colo. – Boulder County is awarding $3.9 million to 11 local organizations to help ensure people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), autism, and brain injury have access to more direct services and recreational and social activities.

Funding for the awards, which will happen in 2026, comes from Boulder County’s IDD Mill Levy, a property tax first approved by voters in 2002, and the organizations can use the money to fill gaps in local programs when state or federal dollars are not enough. Organizations responded to a request for applications for the funding earlier in 2025.

“We are so happy to be able to help our partners provide more social and recreational activities and direct services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and brain injury across Boulder County,” said Boulder County Commissioner Claire Levy. “These funding awards reflect our commitment to build a more inclusive community, one where everyone can thrive and live a meaningful life. We are listening to people living with disabilities and their families so we can ensure our programs are both responsive and empowering. We are deeply grateful to Boulder County voters for making it possible to help provide these services.”

The grants were inspired by a 2018 Boulder County IDD Needs Assessment, which showed a need to increase the number of social and recreational activities that are offered as well as an increase in direct service options for this community.

The funding awards will go to these organizations:

• $156,839 to the Association for Community Living in Boulder and Broomfield
• $649,602 to Boulder County Public Health (Children with Special Needs program)
• $205,347 to PLAY Boulder Foundation
• $2,534,744 to Developmental Disabilities Center, also known as Imagine!
• $25,000 to Ignite Adaptive Sports
• $50,000 to Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center
• $57,092 to Community Link Social
• $8,450 to Inclusive Acres of Boulder County
• $51,500 to TLC Learning Center
• $99,347 to Center for People with Disabilities
• $49,330 to the Town of Erie
