Newly Installed Outdoor Warning Sirens to be Tested
Boulder County, Colo. - Twenty new outdoor warning sirens have been installed across Boulder County and will undergo a systemwide test on Friday, September 19, at 10:00 a.m.
The test will last approximately three minutes. During this time, residents will hear:
- Five short beeps
- A voice message stating, “This is a test”
- A siren tone
- A closing voice message repeating, “This is a test”
This test is the final part of the installation process to ensure the upgraded sirens are operating properly and ready to alert the community in the event of an emergency.
Communities that received the upgraded warning sirens included: Eldorado Springs, Erie, Jamestown, Lafayette, Louisville, Lyons, Marshall, and Superior.
The outdoor emergency sirens warn community members about weather related emergencies, and depending on programming, hazardous materials, and wildfires. Sirens are meant to reach and be heard by people that are outside, not indoors.
With the siren upgrade, it’s a good opportunity for community members to sign up for emergency alerts at: www.BoCoAlert.com. This system allows all community members in Boulder County to be notified of emergency situations in a variety of ways including on their cell phone, home, work phones, text messaging, and email.
Community members are also encouraged to review their own emergency preparedness plans and discuss what they would do in the event of a flash flood or other emergency. For more information about personal preparedness, including upcoming training courses, please visit: www.BoulderODM.gov.
