Grass Fire Contained at Rabbit Mountain Open Space

Boulder County, Colo. -On August 22, 2024, at 3:26 PM, a grass fire was reported at Rabbit Mountain Open Space, located at 14950 55th St. in unincorporated Boulder County. Multiple 911 calls were received by the Boulder County Communications Center, prompting a swift and coordinated response from local agencies.

The fire, which initially covered approximately 2 acres, exhibited low spread with flames reaching 2 to 3 feet high. No structures were threatened, though the rugged terrain presented challenges for firefighters. Thanks to the rapid response from multiple fire districts, the fire was quickly contained.

Responding agencies included the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, Lyons Fire Protection District, Hygiene Fire Protection District, Mountain View Fire Protection District, Boulder County Fire Management, and Lefthand Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The associated Boulder County Sheriff's Office case number is 24-04285.
