57-Year-Old Male Dies While Hiking on the Mesa Trail

Boulder County, Colo. - Just after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Boulder County Communications Center received a report that a 57-year-old male was overdue from hiking, and the concerned family member had not been able to reach him via phone.

Search and rescue teams began searching the area where the hiker was last known to be located and the hiker was found a deceased male a short time later at the bottom of a rock formation known as “The Slab,” which is near the intersection of the Shanahan and Mesa Trail.

Detectives from the Boulder County Sheriff’s office conducted an investigation along with the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, who will determine the identification as well as the cause and manner of death.

The following agencies assisted with the search and recovery: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder County Mounted Search and Rescue, Boulder Emergency Squad, Front Range Rescue Dogs, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
