Brush Fire Quickly Contained at Joder Ranch in Boulder County
Boulder County, Colo. - On Monday, July 8, 2024, at approximately 11:12 AM, the Boulder County Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a small brush fire at Joder Ranch, located in the 7400 block of N. Foothills Hwy in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado.
Trail crews with the City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks were cutting brush just west of the trailhead when they observed six to seven-foot flames igniting approximately 100 to 200 feet west of their location. The crew immediately called 911.
The fire quickly spread, moving up the mountain towards a nearby residence, and grew to approximately 1/2 acre. Thanks to the rapid response of first responders, the fire was quickly contained, ultimately growing to only about 1 acre before being extinguished. No structures were damaged, and there were no injuries.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire likely started due to the trail crew cutting brush. The crew was using spark arresters on their equipment. The crew was not in violation of fire restrictions.
The response included Boulder County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Fire Management, Emergency Services, Lefthand Fire Protection District, Boulder Rural Fire Protection District, Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, Hygiene Fire Protection District, Four Mile Fire Protection District, Lyons Fire Protection District, Allenspark Fire Protection, American Medical Response, and City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of these agencies, the fire was swiftly contained and extinguished. The incident will be documented under Sheriff’s Office Case Report 24-03346.
