Negligent discharge of a firearm causing injury
Boulder County, Colo. -
On 06/02/24 about 2pm the Boulder County Regional Communication Center received a 911 text of a male that just shot himself in the 300 blk. of Bunce School Rd. Forest Service Rd. 217, south of Allenspark, Boulder County. It was later learned a 44-year-old male, who is a resident of Westminster, negligently discharged a pistol he was handling, striking himself in the upper thigh. Family members he was camping with used a belt as a makeshift tourniquet to stop the heavy bleeding.
The family transported the victim by car from the campsite and were met by Allenspark Fire personnel and Lyons Fire personnel looking for them on Hwy 7/South St. Vrain west of Lyons. The victim was transported to a Boulder Area hospital by Lyons Fire Department where he is in stable condition.
During the investigation conducted by Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that alcohol was a factor in the negligent discharge. The male was issued a summons.
