Boulder County, Colo. - Shortly after midnight, December 19, the Boulder County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from a resident of a single-family home off of Portico Lane, in unincorporated Boulder County, just outside the City of Longmont, for medical assistance. When first responders arrived, they determined that the victim had sustained blunt force trauma injuries in an apparent attempted murder.

The 60-year-old male victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital via ambulance and was then flown via a medical helicopter to a Level 1 Trauma Center for further medical care.

A suspect was quickly identified and a search involving multiple agencies began to take place. Based on the suspect’s previous criminal history, we believe the victim was specifically targeted by the suspect. However, out of an abundance of caution, an Everbridge notification was sent to the area surrounding Portico Lane asking residents to shelter in place until they received an “All Clear” message.

The suspect’s vehicle was located nearby on Plateau Road, but the vehicle was unoccupied. While search efforts were ongoing, the suspect came to Boulder County Sheriff’s Office headquarters this morning and was subsequently placed into custody.

The suspect, Michael Joseph Lucky, D.O.B. 3/15/91, has been charged with the following:

• Felony 1 - Murder in the First Degree (18-3-102(1)(A))
• Felony 2 - Criminal Attempt to Commit a Class 1 Felony (18-2-101(4))
• Felony 3 - First Degree Burglary (18-4-202)
• Felony 4 - Stalking: Violating a Protection Order (18-6-602(1)(C),(5))
• Misdemeanor 2 - Violation of a Protection Order (18-6-803.5(1)(A))
• Domestic Violence (18-6-801)
• Crime of Violence (18-1.3-406), 2 counts

Mr. Lucky was out of custody on bond for a case involving the victim’s daughter when these crimes were committed. For information on the prior case and the associated bond conditions, please contact the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office.
