Natural Gas Causes Courts to Evacuate

Criminal Justice Center Evacuated

1777 6th St, Boulder, Boulder County, Colo.

On 8/2/2023, at 4:20pm Deputies detected a strong odor of natural gas throughout the Criminal Justice Center Building located at 1777 6th St in Boulder. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the 20th Judicial District Attorney's Office Investigators quickly evacuated the building.

The Boulder Fire Department responded to investigate. They were able to determine that the natural gas was most likely being sucked into the building by numerous air handlers. The Boulder Fire Department was also dispatched to several other areas around the Justice Center for similar complaints. The cause of the natural gas smell remains under investigation at this time.

No injuries were reported. The Justice Center will remain closed this evening but will re-open at 8:00
