Weed Management Tours Scheduled in Preparation for Management Plan Update

Updated draft management plan will be available for public review in October.

Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County Parks & Open Space is hosting weed management tours on July 25 and Aug. 22 in preparation for its upcoming management plan update.

The tours will provide an opportunity to learn about the variety of weed management tools the county uses, including mechanical controls (mowing, hand pulling, fire), biological controls (insects), herbicides, grazing, and revegetation. Attendees will hear about the challenges of cheatgrass control, the county’s research and monitoring programs, and the pros and cons of each management tool.

The tours will cover the same topics, but will be held at different locations. Parks & Open Space Advisory Committee members may be in attendance.

Background

Boulder County is updating its current weed management plans and policies. Currently, the county is operating with two plans: the Boulder County Noxious Weed Management Plan and the Boulder County Parks & Open Space Weed Management Policies and Procedures. These two documents will be combined into one document titled “Boulder County Integrated Weed Management Plan.” The draft plan will be available for public review and comment in October, with an open house planned for Oct. 11. More details will be announced later this summer. Visit Invasive Plants & Weed Management on Open Space to learn more.
