Inmate dies at the Boulder County Jail

A 54-year-old inmate died after suffering from an apparent medical issue

Boulder County, Colo. - Today, September 7, at 10:25 a.m., deputies at the Boulder County Jail found a 54-year-old male inmate, who was in the Intake Module, unresponsive when they were performing medical rounds. Jail medical staff and other deputies quickly responded and began life-saving resuscitative efforts, which included CPR and utilization of an AED.

Jail medical staff and deputies continued resuscitative efforts until the arrival of paramedics from American Medical Response and Boulder Fire-Rescue. Paramedics continued advanced life-saving resuscitative efforts, but to no avail. The inmate was pronounced deceased at 11:02 a.m. after 30 minutes of life-saving attempts were made.

No foul play is suspected and the circumstances surrounding his death are not suspicious. At this time, the death appears to have been caused by a medical issue.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the decedent after the family has been notified. The Coroner’s Office will also determine the cause and manner of death.

The following agencies responded: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder Fire-Rescue, American Medical Response, and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
