Hiker and a climber sustain minor ankle injuries at Mount Sanitas
Boulder County, Colo. -
On Monday, July 4, 2022 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an injured hiker on the Mount Sanitas Trail.
A Sunshine Fire Protection District rescuer came across a male climber while hiking to the initial patient. The male was bouldering in the area when he took approximately a 10-foot fall onto his crash pad and rolled his ankle. A City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks Ranger assisted the male down the trail where he refused medical treatment and left on his own recognizant.
Rescue units continued up the trail where they located the female patient with an ankle injury. The female, who was climbing on rocks next to the trail and fell approximately one foot, sustained a right ankle injury. After stabilizing the patient, rescuers moved the patient in a litter, from the Mount Sanitas trail, to the Sanitas Valley Trail. The patient refused medical treatment and was given a courtesy ride from a ranger to their vehicle. The 23-year-old female from Boulder was transported to her vehicle and sought her own medical treatment. The rescue took approximately one hour.
Agencies assisting with the rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Sunshine Fire Protection District, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
The associated Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number was 22-3134.
