Injured Hiker Rescued on Lions Lair Trail
Boulder County, Colo. -
On Sunday, June 5, 2022 at approximately 12:00 p.m.,, Boulder County Communications was notified of a hiker who had injured her ankle in the area of the Lions Lair Trail at Mount Sanitas, just west of Boulder.
The 54-year-old female was hiking the Lions Lair Trail with her husband when she sustained an ankle injury. As a result of the injury, she was unable to walk out to the trailhead. Firefighters from Sunshine Fire Protection District arrived and provided medical care to the injured female until Paramedics from American Medical Response arrived. The injured extremity was splinted, and the female was packaged in a wheeled litter. The injured party was evacuated to the trailhead by rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group with assistance from Sunshine Fire Protection District and Boulder Rural Fire Protection District. Following the evacuation, the female was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for further evaluation and care.
Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Sunshine Fire Protection District, Boulder Rural Fire Protection District, American Medical Response, City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks Rangers, and Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
