Uninjured hiker assisted on the Royal Arch Trail

Boulder County, Colo. -

On Thursday March 24, 2022 at approximately 8:25 pm, Boulder County Communications was notified of a 25-year old male hiker who was dehydrated and experiencing severe cramping in the area of the Royal Arch Trail at Chautauqua Park, just West of Boulder.

The 25-year-old male had summited the Royal Arch Trail when he began experiencing symptoms of dehydration. He and his hiking partner were able to walk most of the way down the trail, however his condition worsened, and he was not able to continue walking out. The two hikers contacted 911 for assistance.

Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded to the hiker’s location and provided electrolyte drinks and snacks to the dehydrated hiker. After a short time, the hikers condition improved, and he was able to walk out to the trailhead with assistance from rescuers. The hiker declined additional medical evaluation and was released on his own recognizance.

Agencies assisting with this rescue effort included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, and City of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks.
