Dog Falls from the Royal Arch

Boulder County, Colo. - On Saturday, March 12, 2022 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dog which had fallen approximately 100 feet off the south side of the Royal Arch rock formation. The owner and the dog, from Lafayette, CO had just reached the rock formation when the accident occurred.

Rescuers from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group and the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks hiked into the area of the Royal Arch and located the dog approximately 150 feet below the Arch. The dog had sustained at least a broken leg. Once the dog was evacuated from the Royal Arch, both the owner and the dog were transported to a Boulder veterinary clinic for treatment. The rescue took approximately three hours.

Agencies that assisted with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountains Parks and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
